## A Recognizable Base with a Premium Enhancer
The 2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali bears significant resemblance to the Chevrolet Silverado EV, which is to be expected as both trucks share the same platform. The Sierra EV Denali boasts a robust powertrain with up to 760 horsepower (567 kW) and 785 lb-ft (1,064 Nm) of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. However, such acceleration is relatively trivial in a truck of its size, as its primary selling points are its towing and hauling prowess.
The Sierra EV Denali has a towing capacity of up to 10,500 lbs (4,763 kg) and a payload limit of 1,350 lbs (612 kg) in its 5-foot, 11-inch bed. While these figures are commendable, they don’t quite match the Sierra 1500’s internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, which can tow a maximum of 13,300 lbs (6,033 kg) and carry a payload of 2,230 lbs (1,012 kg). Nevertheless, the electric model still delivers adequate performance for the average truck owner.
## Range and Battery Selections
Range is a crucial factor for electric truck purchasers, especially when transporting or hauling substantial items. The Sierra EV Denali meets this challenge with two battery selections: the Max Range battery, which yields an impressive 460 miles (740 km), and the Extended Range battery, offering 390 miles (628 km). The Max Range variant starts at $100,495, while the Extended Range option reduces the cost by $7,500, bringing it to $91,995.
Although these range statistics are remarkable, it’s vital to recognize that towing can dramatically diminish an EV’s range. For those who frequently tow heavy cargo, the Max Range battery might be more of a requirement than an extra feature.
## Design and Features: A Cut Above the Silverado
While the Sierra EV Denali shares a substantial amount of its framework with the Silverado EV, there are significant design distinctions. The most prominent difference lies in the junction between the Crew Cab and the bed. The Silverado showcases a more modern, flowing aesthetic, while the Sierra employs a classic, truck-like vertical alignment that delineates the cab from the bed.
A notable feature present in both the Sierra and Silverado EVs is the midgate, a smart divider that allows for the front of the bed to connect with the rear of the cab. By folding down the back seats and lowering the midgate, the bed can engulf longer items such as full sheets of plywood or drywall. The midgate also provides a 60/40 split, allowing for elongated cargo while still retaining seating for passengers.
Furthermore, the Sierra EV Denali features an 11-cubic-foot (311 L) front trunk, or “frunk,” which delivers secure storage space. Although it doesn’t match the F-150 Lightning’s 14.1-cubic-foot (400 L) frunk in size, it still serves as useful storage for tools, equipment, or groceries.

Inside, the Sierra EV Denali distinguishes itself from the Silverado by incorporating higher-quality materials and amenities. The dashboard, for instance, showcases real wood accents, while the seats feature premium upholstery. The cabin is roomy and comfortable, with practical components like a customizable cargo space between the seats. A column-mounted shifter creates additional storage space, including a hidden area under the wireless charging pad.
However, the Sierra EV Denali does have one significant drawback: smartphone integration. Unlike many contemporary vehicles, it lacks wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay functionality. Instead, it operates with GM’s Android Automotive-based system, integrating Google applications like YouTube Music and Spotify directly onto the dashboard. While the system is user-friendly and customizable, the absence of wireless smartphone projection may deter some tech-minded buyers.
## Driving Experience: Smooth and Nimble for Its Size
Despite its large size and 24-inch wheels, the Sierra EV Denali provides an unexpectedly smooth ride, aided by its standard air suspension. The truck’s four-wheel steering also enhances its maneuverability compared to traditional trucks of its scale.
