Google is introducing its AI-fueled Scam Detection feature to wearable devices, providing Pixel Watch users with a robust new method to tackle fraudulent calls in real time.
Initially made available on Pixel smartphones, the Scam Detection feature has now expanded to include the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 models in the U.S. This cutting-edge update allows users to receive alerts about scams directly on their smartwatches, empowering them to respond promptly without needing to grab their mobile devices.
Google’s Scam Detection utilizes artificial intelligence to scrutinize call interactions in real time. The AI detects common patterns and phrases associated with scammers—like urgent demands for money, threats of legal repercussions, or impersonations of government personnel. When a potential scam is identified during a call, the system generates an alert that is sent to the user’s Pixel Watch via Bluetooth.
Upon receiving the alert on the watch, users can opt to disregard the warning or terminate the call right from their wrist. This efficient interaction provides a swift and subtle method to sidestep phone scams.
To enable the feature, users must verify they are using the latest version of the Google Phone app. After that, they can access the app’s settings and turn on Scam Detection. Once activated, an audible tone at the beginning of a call signifies that the feature is monitoring the dialogue.
With the addition of Scam Detection to Pixel Watches, Google is enhancing the utility of wearables in personal security. The feature offers real-time alerts, including sound and vibration notifications, when a high-risk scam is detected. This enables users to respond instantaneously, even if their phone is not within reach.
“This initiative focuses on empowering users with greater control and tranquility,” stated a Google representative. “By bringing scam alerts to the wrist, we’re making it simpler to stay secure wherever you happen to be.”
While the feature is presently restricted to the U.S. and English-speaking audiences, there are hints that Google might broaden its support to additional regions and languages in the future. For now, this rollout represents a notable advancement in embedding AI-driven safety attributes into wearable technology.
Scam calls remain a significant annoyance and security concern for smartphone users. With the new AI-infused Scam Detection feature on Pixel Watches, Google is providing a proactive approach that brings scam protection nearer—literally—to users. As smartwatches become increasingly sophisticated, features like this underscore their expanding significance in digital safety and daily convenience.
Stay tuned for updates on regional expansion and upcoming improvements to this promising feature.
