Samsung’s Sleep Apnea Detection Capability Broadens Internationally
Samsung has revealed that its sleep apnea detection capability for the Galaxy Watch is about to become available to a wider audience across the globe. This feature, aimed at detecting signs of sleep apnea, has now received approval in 34 European nations, in addition to Australia and Singapore. Originally sanctioned by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2023, it also gained FDA endorsement in the U.S. earlier this year.
The sleep apnea detection capability leverages the Galaxy Watch’s BioActive Sensor to observe users’ sleep habits and notify them of possible indicators of the condition. Although it serves as a valuable resource for early identification, Samsung cautions that it is not meant for individuals already diagnosed with sleep apnea.
The rollout of this capability is supported by the recent CE marking within the European Economic Area, affirming adherence to EU health, safety, and environmental regulations. In Australia and Singapore, the feature has been authorized by the relevant health bodies.
Galaxy Watch users in these areas with devices operating on Wear OS 5 or above will shortly gain access to this capability via the Samsung Health Monitor app. This launch represents a major advancement in Samsung’s initiatives to improve sleep health tracking for users worldwide.
