# Apple Intelligence Announcements Anticipated at WWDC
Although AI might not take center stage at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple is set to reveal multiple notable developments in Apple Intelligence. Here’s a preview of what’s expected, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
## 1. Enhanced Apple Intelligence Models
Apple has created new, more robust versions of its underlying models, which are extensive language models that facilitate various Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools, Genmoji, and text summarization. The models now encompass iterations with 3 billion, 7 billion, 33 billion, and 150 billion parameters. The 150 billion parameter model, functioning in the cloud, delivers superior capabilities for nuanced reasoning compared to Apple’s on-device technology.
## 2. Apple’s Foundation Models Will Be Available to Developers
For the first time, Apple will permit developers to access its proprietary foundation models. This will allow third-party applications to take advantage of features like summary generation and writing suggestions, utilizing the same technology that underpins Apple’s Writing Tools and Genmoji. However, developers will only gain access to on-device models, with cloud models still being limited for now.
## 3. Comprehensive Systemwide Translation
Apple is significantly enhancing its Translate app by incorporating translation features into text messages and phone calls and is also developing live translation for AirPods discussions. This capability is expected to bolster Apple’s competitiveness against Google’s existing translation services on Android.
## 4. Genmoji Introduces Emoji Fusion
Genmoji, Apple’s AI-powered emoji creator, is getting an upgrade that enables users to merge two standard emojis to form a new one, adding an engaging and imaginative aspect to emoji interaction.
## 5. Innovative Shortcuts Enhanced by Apple Intelligence
The Shortcuts app will be upgraded with a more intelligent engine driven by Apple Intelligence. This integration will allow users to formulate automations more naturally, as the system will better comprehend contextual prompts and translate them into actionable shortcuts.
## 6. AI-Driven Battery Optimization Mode
Apple intends to roll out a machine learning-driven battery optimization mode that adjusts to user habits in real time. This feature is anticipated to launch later in the year, particularly for the soon-to-be-released iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to feature a smaller battery that requires improved energy efficiency.
## 7. Swift Assist Revision
Apple’s AI coding assistant, Swift Assist, which was showcased last year but didn’t launch due to reliability concerns, is undergoing rework. The new Xcode version will support third-party large language models, such as Anthropic’s Claude, allowing for both local and cloud-based operation, thus aligning Xcode with other integrated development environments.
## 8. Not Arriving: Siri Revamp
There will be no updates about a redesigned Siri at this year’s keynote. The anticipated LLM-powered iteration of Siri, internally known as LLM Siri, is still at least a year from release. When it does become available, it will offer enhanced app control and access to personal context.
## 9. Not Arriving (for Now): Gemini Integration
Apple has been in negotiations with Google regarding the potential integration of its Gemini large language models as an alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT for Siri and Writing Tools. However, this collaboration is still pending, likely due to ongoing antitrust considerations. Consequently, no Gemini-related announcements are expected at WWDC.
## 10. Not Arriving: Calendar and Health AI Overhauls
Two major Apple Intelligence initiatives, an enhanced Calendar app with AI scheduling capabilities and a new AI health assistant codename Mulberry, will not be presented at this event due to project delays. Both are now earmarked for future releases in iOS 27 and macOS 27 in 2026, although minor updates may be revealed this year.
These anticipated announcements showcase Apple’s continuous dedication to advancing its AI capabilities and embedding them into its ecosystem, despite some projects facing delays.
