The functionality utilizes Meta AI, yet the platform asserts that your data is solely for your viewing.
WhatsApp has rolled out a new functionality known as “Message Summaries” for private conversations, harnessing Meta AI to assist users in reviewing unread messages. When multiple messages are unread, a summaries banner will show up in the chat, offering bullet-point information. WhatsApp guarantees users that both the messages and their summaries are kept confidential, only available to the user and not to Meta or the platform itself.
This functionality is initially accessible to English users in the U.S., with plans to broaden to additional languages and areas later this year. The summaries aim to convey information succinctly, emphasizing essential points and naming individuals when needed. Users can activate this functionality in settings, which is off by default to safeguard privacy.
WhatsApp is further enhancing its AI features with other updates, including video call effects and swifter emoji reactions. Meta AI continues to mature, introducing new applications and functionalities such as Live Translation and Live AI discussions, with the goal of improving user experience while upholding privacy.
