**Microsoft Authenticator Retiring Password Autofill: Important Information You Should Have**
A quick alert for those utilizing Microsoft Authenticator as a password manager: the app is discontinuing support for password autofill, and all stored passwords will be erased by August. Here’s what you need to know.
These adjustments are part of Microsoft’s strategy to streamline its credential management tools under the Edge browser. Moving forward, password autofill will exclusively be accessible through Edge, not Authenticator.
### What’s Changing, and When
– **Beginning June 2025**: You will be unable to **Add** or **Import** new passwords in the Authenticator App. However, you can keep saving passwords via autofill until July.
– **Throughout July 2025**: Autofill will no longer function with Authenticator.
– **Starting August 2025**: Your saved passwords will be inaccessible in Authenticator.
Microsoft indicates that passwords and addresses already stored within the app will automatically sync to your Microsoft account and will be available through Edge. Nevertheless, if you don’t intend to use Edge, you must export your passwords to another service prior to August 1.
### How to Maintain Access to Your Passwords
If you plan to remain within Microsoft’s ecosystem, after downloading Edge and designating it as your default autofill provider, simply sign in with your Microsoft account to synchronize your credentials. You can retrieve them via Settings > Passwords in the Edge application.
If you are shifting to another service such as iCloud Keychain or Bitwarden, follow these steps:
1. [Download](https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2313502) the Microsoft Edge browser.
2. On your mobile device, access iPhone **Settings** and select **General**.
3. Choose **Autofill & Passwords**.
4. In the “Autofill from” section, you’ll find a list of available password managers.
5. Select Edge (If you have configured Passkeys for your Microsoft Account, ensure that Authenticator is kept active as your Passkey Provider. Disabling Authenticator will disable your passkeys. If you’re **not utilizing Passkeys**, please deactivate **Authenticator as your autofill provider**.)
6. Launch Edge and log in to begin autofilling. Your passwords and addresses are now securely synchronized in your Microsoft account. You can find them under **Settings > Passwords**.
Microsoft permits you to export passwords directly from Authenticator via Settings > Autofill > Export Passwords. Be aware that payment information cannot be exported, so manual re-entry will be necessary.
### Passkeys Still Supported
Even though passwords are being phased out, Microsoft Authenticator will retain support for passkeys, allowing logins using facial recognition, fingerprints, or PINs to function as usual. Just ensure the app stays enabled as your passkey provider.
