Essential information

  • Google has announced an update being deployed for its Photos app that transforms its photo viewing interface.
  • Users can now expect “glanceable” information regarding photos, along with a newly improved action menu featuring helpful photo management options.
  • The update also introduces new three-dot menus for photo stacks and bursts, as well as fresh badges for live photos.
  • Google is bringing these updates to iOS devices; however, these will be “coming soon” to Android.

Google is initiating the rollout of a major update for the Photos app, which introduces a redesign to “multiple” fundamental aspects.

In a post on the Google Photos community, the company expressed a desire to enhance the photo viewing experience on mobile devices. Google concentrated on releasing a more “intuitive” user interface update for Photos app users when revisiting their memories. Starting off, Google Photos will now show “glanceable” date, time, and location details above a photo. The post mentions this is intended to “simplify the process of identifying” when and where the image was captured.

Nevertheless, users will need to have location services enabled for this feature to function properly.
