Apple has declared a major enhancement of its dedication to the U.S. economy with a fresh $500 million investment aimed at advancing its supply chain through the creation of an innovative recycling facility for rare earth elements. This effort builds on Apple’s prior commitment of $500 billion to be invested in the United States over the coming four years.

The fresh investment will see Apple partner with MP Materials, the sole fully integrated rare earth producer in the U.S., to produce American-made rare earth magnets at MP Materials’ facility in Fort Worth, Texas. This collaboration will entail the setup of multiple neodymium magnet production lines specifically tailored for Apple products.

Alongside magnet production, the collaboration will also prioritize the establishment of a state-of-the-art rare earth recycling line in Mountain Pass, California. This facility will not only process recycled rare earth elements but will also strive to develop cutting-edge magnet materials and processing technologies to enhance magnet performance.

Apple’s investment is projected to create a multitude of jobs in advanced manufacturing and research and development fields, reinforcing the company’s commitment to American innovation and manufacturing. CEO Tim Cook stressed the significance of rare earth materials in advanced technology and conveyed enthusiasm about the future of manufacturing in the U.S., underscoring the company’s pledge to bolster the American economy.

This announcement arises amidst ongoing demands from the Trump administration for Apple to relocate more of its manufacturing operations to the United States. Nevertheless, the current investment primarily concentrates on rare earth materials rather than the production of iPhones, which many experts argue is impractical to manufacture entirely in the U.S. due to various logistical and economic hurdles.

Apple’s initial $500 billion investment strategy encompasses various initiatives such as research and development, chip production in Arizona, AI server manufacturing in Houston, and content generation for Apple TV+.

For more information, Apple has issued a detailed press statement outlining the particulars of this investment and its ramifications for the U.S. supply chain.
