AI on smartphones can be more than just a gimmick.
In 2025, nearly every smartphone available comes equipped with AI features, but Samsung may provide the most comprehensive AI package of any manufacturer. Purchasing a flagship Samsung Galaxy device grants you access to unique Galaxy AI functionalities, refined multimodal Gemini support, and additional Google AI tools.
Given that Galaxy AI excels in several areas compared to other smartphone brands, Samsung users enjoy advantages that those using competing top Android devices do not. One UI 7 introduced excellent AI functionalities to the Samsung Galaxy S25 series earlier this year, and now, One UI 8 is doing the same for the latest Samsung foldables.
I spent the past few days thoroughly testing the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and discovered five AI features that I genuinely wanted to utilize. Some are brand new while others are familiar, but if you’re considering purchasing a new Galaxy Z Flip 7 or Galaxy Z Fold 7, you should be informed about each one. In fact, many are also available on Samsung Galaxy devices in general.
Gemini Live
Before the release of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, flip phones had limited support for multimodal Gemini Live. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 lacked screen sharing and live video streaming features, and while Motorola Razr devices offered these capabilities, the experience was quite poor. With insufficient optimizations and controls concealed behind camera lenses, initiating a live video session on my Motorola Razr 2025 cover screen proved challenging.
On the other hand, the new Galaxy Z Flip 7 features a version of Gemini Live fully optimized for its cover screen. Although screen sharing isn’t an option due to the cover screen’s small size, live video sharing works effectively. After testing multimodal Gemini Live across all major Android brands, I have to say, this particular implementation may be my favorite so far.
Holding the compact flip phone while engaging in Gemini Live is advantageous, and the form factor guarantees a comfortable grip. It’s simpler to extend your arm to show Gemini Live what you see and to flip the phone around to show yourself or listen to replies as needed. You can also set the Galaxy Z Flip 7 up in tent mode while using both hands.
In my opinion, the versatility of using Gemini Live on a flip phone surpasses that of using a slab phone, which tends to be heavy and cumbersome. Specifically for flip phones, no other model has optimized Gemini as well as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7.
AI Select
AI Select may be the most overlooked Galaxy AI feature. You can find it in the Edge Panel by swiping from the top third of the screen to access it. Once open, AI Select is the first option at the top. This tool allows you to select virtually anything on your screen using artificial intelligence and gain quick access to context-related options.
For instance, tapping an image on your screen lets you download just that photo to your device without the need to manually crop the rest. Or, if you’re viewing a flyer, AI Select can automatically add the event to your calendar. Additional functions include selecting text, creating GIFs, translating languages, or producing new content using Generative edit and Drawing assist.
Tasks that might be cumbersome on an average smartphone, like making a GIF from any video displayed on your screen, are rendered simple. It resembles Circle to Search, but instead of searching the web, you can utilize all the Galaxy AI features available on your device.
Object Eraser
While nearly every phone includes a generative edit and object removal feature, in my experience, Samsung’s Object Eraser stands out as the most impressive. Apple’s Clean Up and Google’s Magic Editor aim to achieve similar results, but I am consistently amazed at how effectively Object Eraser employs generative AI to eliminate elements from a photo and seamlessly fill in the gaps.
To evaluate Object Eraser on the Galaxy Z Flip 7, I took a photo of myself holding a Galaxy Watch 8 and attempted to erase it. This presented a challenging scenario, as it had to both fill in the gaps behind my hand and recreate the striped, textured carpet with its various colors in the background.
Although there is some loss of sharpness and texture where Object Eraser applied generative fill, it’s not immediately noticeable at first glance. This extreme example demonstrates that if you need to remove something from the background of an image, your Galaxy phone is capable of handling the task.
To use it, open a photo in the Samsung Gallery app, tap the Galaxy AI button located in the center of the toolbar, and select or circle whatever you wish to remove. It’s that straightforward.
