Google Nest Thermostat Users Have Received an Exciting Upgrade They’ll Want to Explore

Google has launched a notable update for users of the 3rd-gen Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E, enabling them to establish schedules directly from the Google Home app. This update fills a significant void for older Nest thermostats, which had previously required users to depend on the separate Nest app for scheduling. Now, any schedules created in the previous Nest app will seamlessly transfer to the Google Home app, simplifying the user experience.

In addition to scheduling, owners of the Learning Thermostat can now utilize sensors within the Home app, improving the capabilities of their devices. This update is currently being rolled out to users in the U.S. and UK, representing a substantial enhancement in Google’s smart home framework for older models.

However, not all Nest thermostats are part of this update. Legacy models, including the first-gen Nest (2011), the second-gen from 2012, and the European version from 2014, will not benefit from this upgrade. Google has indicated that software support for these devices will officially conclude on October 25, 2025.

In conjunction with this update, Google is also upgrading the Home app for all Nest thermostats with more vibrant colors, clearer labels for heating and cooling, and a revamped energy dashboard that offers more in-depth statistics and weekly year-over-year comparisons. This all-encompassing update seeks to enhance the overall user experience for Nest thermostat owners.
