Google has revealed its newest advancement in the foldable smartphone segment with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, presenting noteworthy enhancements compared to its predecessor. The latest model features an impressive 8-inch inner display and a 6.4-inch cover display, both equipped with a “gearless” hinge intended to last for “10 years of folding.” This hinge not only offers twice the durability of last year’s version but also introduces water and dust resistance, a first for foldables with an IP68 rating.
At the heart of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is Google’s Tensor G5 chip, which boosts AI functionalities and supports features like the Gemini AI model and sophisticated photography tools such as Add Me. The device also incorporates built-in Qi2 magnets for wireless charging, compatible with Google’s new Pixelsnap accessory and case.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is set for pre-orders, starting at $1,799, with an official launch scheduled for October 9. The announcement was made during Google’s primary summer event in New York City, where the company highlighted the foldable’s durability and state-of-the-art technology.
The foldable’s Super ActuaFlex display is fortified with thin glass and anti-impact film, ensuring it can endure over a decade of usage. The cover display’s expansion to 6.4 inches is due to slimmer bezels, enhancing the total user experience.
Internally, the Tensor G5 chip drives the device’s performance, guaranteeing smooth operation for everyday tasks and gaming. Its AI emphasis is evident in features such as Gemini Live, Magic Cue, and the Daily Hub, along with camera editing tools like Best Take and Camera Coach.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s camera array consists of a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The device enables 4K recording at 60fps and features Instant View for rapid photo previews.
Multitasking stands out as a significant feature, with the expansive inner display facilitating Split Screen functionality, allowing users to operate two apps simultaneously and drag and drop content between them.
The foldable’s 5,015mAh battery ensures up to 30 hours of usage, extendable to 84 hours with Extreme Battery Saver mode. The inclusion of Qi2 charging and the Pixelsnap magnetic charger provides convenient charging alternatives, even when the device is unfolded.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold maintains a physical SIM slot in addition to eSIM support, accommodating various user preferences. Available in Moonstone and Jade, the device is set to make a considerable impact in the foldable smartphone landscape.
