Spotify Unveils Direct Messaging for Sharing Music and Podcasts

Spotify has rolled out a new functionality named “Messages,” aimed at improving how users share music, podcasts, and audiobooks with their friends and family. This development comes in response to user feedback and facilitates one-on-one conversations within the app, allowing users to send content directly to acquaintances. To initiate a chat, users can click on their profile icon on the mobile app, enter the Messages section, and compose a new message. The feature is limited to those individuals with whom users have previously interacted, guaranteeing privacy and security.

Spotify’s Messages enable users to swiftly share tracks by tapping the Now Playing view and utilizing the share icon. The shared items appear in the chat along with their cover art, and users have the option to include text or emojis in their messages. If a user receives a Spotify link from another application, it can spark additional discussions on the platform.

The feature also recommends users based on shared Jams, Blends, and collaborative playlists. Safety remains a focus, with tools available to accept message requests, report inappropriate content, and block users if required. Messages are encrypted to adhere to industry standards for security.

Moreover, Spotify has upgraded its Jam feature for Android Auto, enabling several users to add to a music queue while on the road. Passengers can join the driver’s Jam session by scanning a QR code displayed in the car, simplifying the process of sharing and enjoying music during travel.
