# Apple’s M5 iPad Pro: A Comprehensive Review

Apple’s M5 iPad Pro has newly launched, and users are keen to discover its features. After upgrading from the M4 model, I’ve been using the 13-inch M5 iPad Pro and would like to relay my initial thoughts.

## Transitioning to M5 iPad Pro from Last Year’s M4 Model

Over the last 18 months, my main device has been the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro, which was a notable upgrade at that time, showcasing a robust chip, beautiful OLED screen, and a stylish design. The M5 iPad Pro preserves all the excellent features of the M4 while enhancing several major aspects.

The M5 model brings seven significant enhancements compared to the M4:

1. Powerful M5 chip
2. Additional and faster RAM
3. C1X 5G modem
4. N1 wireless chip
5. Rapid charging
6. Battery enhancements for heavy cellular users
7. 120Hz external display compatibility

Aesthetically, the M5 appears nearly the same as the M4, with the only noticeable change being the removal of the ‘iPad Pro’ branding on the rear. Nonetheless, the internal upgrades are quite substantial.

## My Impressions of the M5 iPad Pro So Far

While many M4 users may not see the need to upgrade, I was attracted to the M5 for its enhanced performance. The M5 chip and increased RAM were key reasons behind my decision to transition.

Traditionally, iPad hardware has surpassed software, but with the arrival of iPadOS 26, I started to notice performance issues with my M4. The M5 has resolved these problems, offering smoother window management and stopping Safari tabs from reloading unexpectedly—an important enhancement for my workflow.

The jump from 8GB to 16GB of RAM has made a significant impact on multitasking efficiency. Additionally, as a regular cellular user, I’ve noted improved battery performance with the M5, although it’s hard to gauge how much of this is influenced by the new C1X modem versus a new battery.

Rapid charging is another appreciated feature, allowing me to quickly power up during brief pauses. Moreover, the nano-texture option has been advantageous for working in bright conditions, greatly minimizing glare.

Lastly, although I haven’t yet taken advantage of the 120Hz external display support, I value the future-proofing it provides, particularly with forthcoming displays that might utilize this capability.

## M5 iPad Pro Summary: Who Should Upgrade?

If you possess an older iPad Pro, like the 2018 model or the M1 or M2 versions, the M5 offers a persuasive upgrade with its upgraded features and the advantages of iPadOS 26. However, for existing M4 users, transitioning to the M5 may only be worthwhile for those who need specific enhancements that correspond with their usage requirements.

Considering the high cost of the iPad Pro, it may be prudent for most users to wait for the next version unless the M5’s upgrades are crucial for their work or lifestyle.
