Android TV has launched a new ‘Free’ tab, unifying all free-to-stream content in a single, dedicated area. This update replaces the former Discover tab, which was aimed at assisting users in finding new content based on personalization, watchlists, and trending titles. The content from the Discover tab is still available but can now be accessed through the Home tab, enabling users to discover and stream recommended content without needing to go to a separate section.
The Free tab acts as a central hub for ad-supported content, facilitating the search and enjoyment of free streaming options for users. This modification is being implemented through a server-side update, so users might not see the new tab right away; however, it should soon appear on their Android TV home screens.
Additionally, Google has broadened its Freeplay library, which now features over 250 free channels. Recently added channels include NBC Sports Now, NBC Comedy Vault, Universal Movies, Universal Action, and SNL Vault, among others. While some channels might necessitate third-party apps, the Free tab streamlines the process of finding and accessing free content on Android TV.
