The new PencilWash features a 1.5-inch diameter handle, enabling it to clean under furniture. Dyson has introduced this variation of its PencilVac for addressing spills and stains on hard floors, rather than dirt and debris. Like the PencilVac, once touted as the “world’s slimmest vacuum cleaner,” the PencilWash compactly includes a battery, motor, and electronics inside its handle. However, it replaces the dust bin with a water reservoir in its larger cleaning head, which has a floor-scrubbing roller.
Weighing 4.9 pounds without water or cleaning solution, the PencilWash is slightly heavier than the 4-pound PencilVac but is more affordable. The PencilVac, with its four spinning conical brush heads, costs $600, whereas the PencilWash is priced at $349, including a charging stand.
Specifically designed for hard surfaces like tile, laminate, and sealed wood, the PencilWash employs a pressurized hydration system to dispense water. Its high-density microfiber roller scrubs and collects dirty water. While floors won’t be perfectly dry after use, any remaining moisture evaporates quickly. Unlike Dyson’s larger floor scrubbers, the PencilWash’s handle pivots to allow cleaning under furniture.
The battery lasts up to 30 minutes on a full charge, paralleling the PencilVac’s lowest power setting. If needed, the battery, located at the end of the handle, can be replaced with an additional one available for purchase separately.
