Python is prevalent in AI and data science but lacks the performance and low-level capabilities required for optimal GPU usage, resulting in developers turning to NVIDIA’s CUDA framework. This adds complexity and fragments the development stack.
Mojo is a new programming language aiming to blend Python’s simplicity, C’s performance, and Rust’s safety, also offering a vendor-agnostic GPU programming method. Mojo is being created by Chris Lattner, a distinguished systems engineer notable for his contributions to computer science, including LLVM, the Clang compiler, and Swift.
Chris is the CEO and Co-Founder of Modular AI, the company behind Mojo. He appears on the show to discuss his engineering journey, his work on AI infrastructure, and the Mojo language.
Kevin Ball, known as KBall, is Mento’s vice president of engineering and offers coaching for engineers and leaders. He has co-founded two companies, served as CTO, started the San Diego JavaScript meetup, and organizes the AI inaction discussion group via Latent Space.
