The company will integrate AI from Origin Wireless to enhance its smart home security products.
ADT, a company with a 150-year history in home security, has acquired Origin Wireless for $170 million to enhance its smart home offerings. Origin Wireless developed technology that uses RF signals to detect movement and presence without additional sensors. ADT plans to incorporate this technology to reduce false alarms and streamline home security systems by using fewer sensors. Omar Khan, ADT’s executive vice president, stated that this move aims to deliver smarter home security while maintaining privacy. Origin’s technology has previously appeared in products like Linksys Aware and SpaceSense. ADT will continue licensing this technology to Verisure in Europe and South America, with potential for licensing to other companies.
