Users who do not verify their age might be unable to download or purchase apps.
Apple is implementing age verification in the UK. The latest iOS 26.4 beta prompts users to confirm they are over 18 after installation. According to Reddit screenshots, users who do not verify their age will not be able to download, purchase apps, or make in-app purchases.
Apple may verify age through the payment method linked to the user’s account or the account’s age. Alternatively, users might need to scan their credit cards or IDs for age confirmation.
The Verge sought more details from Apple regarding this update but has yet to receive a response.
This development occurs as Apple and other tech companies address global age verification mandates. On Tuesday, Apple announced plans to restrict users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore from downloading 18+ rated apps unless they verify their adulthood through reasonable methods. Additionally, Apple will comply with local laws in Utah and Louisiana by sharing app age categories with developers.
