February 27th marks the debut anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, and The Pokémon Company traditionally uses this date for its Pokémon Presents showcase to share plans for the beloved series. This year’s event, on the franchise’s 30th anniversary, promises to be significant. While The Pokémon Company has not divulged specifics, updates and news from the Pokémon world are promised. Fans expect announcements regarding the next mainline entry, following the release of Scarlet and Violet in 2022. Unexpected spinoffs akin to Pokémon Sleep might also be revealed.

A confirmed announcement is the re-release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on the Switch, available immediately after the showcase. The event will be live-streamed at 9 AM ET, where details will be shared in real-time.

Following the showcase, the remake Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen for GBA will be on the Switch, according to Andrew Webster. Charles Pulliam-Moore hints at Nintendo launching a Game Boy-esque music player with 45 cartridges, each playing a singular song. Additionally, GameCube’s Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will join the Nintendo Classics line for NSO subscribers, slated for a March release. The Pokémon Presents showcase, which celebrates Pokémon’s 30th birthday, can be viewed directly and promises thrilling revelations.

Pokémon Day holds special significance for fans, especially this 30th year. With Pokémon Legends: Z-A concluded and Pokémon Pokopia upcoming, the expectation is high for new mainline game insights, possibly covering Pokémon Champions, and updates on spin-offs like Pokémon Unite, TCG Pocket, and Pokémon Sleep. Nintendo disclosed the arrival of Pokémon FireRed / LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch via the eShop after next week’s Pokémon Presents. The re-released games emulate their original forms and will soon be purchasable for $19.99 at select retailers.
