Production has begun for the Prime Video adaptation of God of War. Amazon has revealed a glimpse of the live-action adaptation, showcasing an image of Kratos and his son Atreus, portrayed by Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson, respectively. They resemble their video game counterparts.
Detailed information about the show remains sparse, but Amazon offers the following storyline description: Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to scatter the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their adventure, Kratos aims to teach Atreus to become a better god, while Atreus attempts to teach Kratos to be a better human.
This narrative aligns with the soft reboot of the franchise beginning with the 2018 God of War and continuing through Ragnarök in 2022. Ronald D. Moore is the showrunner for the Amazon series, known for his work on For All Mankind and Battlestar Galactica. The cast includes Mandy Patinkin (Odin), Ed Skrein (Baldur), Max Parker (Heimdall), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Thor), Teresa Palmer (Sif), Alastair Duncan (Mimir), Jeff Gulka (Sindri), and Danny Woodburn (Brok).
While production is underway, there’s no release date for when the series might stream.
Aside from games, Amazon is focusing on adaptations for Prime Video. Besides God of War, there’s Fallout, which just concluded season 2, and an upcoming Tomb Raider show starring Sophie Turner.
