The AI Workmate Concept can handle document scanning, project presentations, or simply provide companionship at the office.
At MWC, Lenovo introduced new AI-based productivity companion concepts alongside several new laptops and products. These standalone desk devices aim to enhance productivity while offering a touch of artificial companionship.
Lenovo’s AI Workmate Concept is described as an “always-on desk companion,” resembling a small robotic arm with a swiveling base and a bulbous screen displaying expressive eyes. While it may not be as engaging as a human coworker, it features local AI processing, allowing interaction through voice commands and gestures.
Additionally, the Workmate Concept can assist with “practical business tasks.” A camera below its screen can scan notes and documents, generating summaries, organizing ideas, or creating presentations. For sharing purposes, it incorporates a projector to display documents on a desk or nearby wall.
The AI Work Companion Concept offers a different kind of AI assistance. With a design akin to a bedside alarm clock with a large screen, it uses AI to sync tasks and schedules from a user’s devices, forming a balanced daily agenda. To combat burnout, it monitors screen time and recommends breaks, offering playful interactions with animated faces and end-of-week celebrations with task completion reports.
It also functions as a dock, enabling a laptop connection to multiple displays via HDMI and providing USB ports for device charging while minimizing desktop clutter.
Lenovo has a history of turning concept devices into products. While the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 with an extending rollable screen launched last year, Lenovo has yet to confirm if these AI companion concepts will reach the market.
