Anthropic faced significant disruptions on Monday morning, with numerous users experiencing issues accessing Claude services.
The disruption appears to impact Claude.ai and Claude Code, though the company announced that the Claude API functions normally. Most users encounter errors when trying to log in, as shown in the screenshot below.
“The issues we are seeing are related to Claude.ai and with the login/logout paths,” the company’s status page states. Anthropic has not yet disclosed the cause of the outage, although the company mentioned it has identified a problem and is applying a solution.
The disruption follows a surge of users to Claude, seemingly due to attention from the company’s complex negotiations with the Pentagon. The chatbot app climbed to the top of the App Store charts this weekend, surpassing its rival ChatGPT, after being outside of the top 20 for a while.
U.S. President Donald Trump last week instructed federal agencies to cease using Anthropic products after a disagreement over safeguards preventing the Department of Defense from utilizing its AI models for extensive domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced he would label the company a supply-chain threat, though Anthropic states it has not yet received any formal notifications.
