This YouTube Glitch Locks Ads on Your Display and Ignores Any Taps to Dismiss
Users are experiencing a bothersome problem on YouTube where full-screen advertisements refuse to clear, even after pressing the exit button. This bug impacts the mobile YouTube application on both Android and iOS devices. The advertisements typically manifest in the bottom-left corner during full-screen video viewing and can hang around for about 30 seconds. Numerous users have discovered that leaving the video or restarting the application is the only dependable method to eliminate these stubborn ads.
Generally, small overlay advertisements on YouTube can be removed with a tap. Nevertheless, in this instance, the “Dismiss” button does not eliminate the ad, leaving it wedged on the display while the video continues to play. This has resulted in a distracting experience for viewers on their mobile devices.
The issue appears to be a bug rather than a newly introduced feature, as the interface still displays a dismiss option that fails to function. This indicates a problem within the system rather than a deliberate shift in ad format. The majority of reports regarding this problem come from users of the free version of YouTube, whereas Premium subscribers, who pay to eliminate ads, do not seem to be impacted.
For those facing this issue, temporary remedies include viewing videos in a mobile web browser instead of the app, exiting and reopening the video, or updating the YouTube app to its latest version. Although these solutions are not flawless, they can assist in alleviating the problem until a proper resolution is put in place. Currently, YouTube has not publicly acknowledged the bug or confirmed if a fix is underway.
If this is indeed a software bug, it is likely to be resolved in a future app update. Until then, some users may need to tolerate ads lingering on their displays for a brief period. Android Central has contacted Google for a comment and will update this article once a response is received.
