After weeks of anticipation and discussion, Nothing has officially introduced the Nothing Phone 4a and, for the first time, the Phone 4a Pro at its launch event in London.
Nothing CEO Carl Pei had previously confirmed that there would be no flagship phone debut in 2026. However, that doesn’t imply the brand is stepping back from the market; Nothing has revealed its latest mid-range smartphones.
The company had already hinted at the design of the Phone 4a during MWC 2026 in Barcelona, but it has now completely released both the Phone 4a and its more expensive counterpart, the Phone 4a Pro.
Last year’s Nothing Phone 3a Pro adopted a starkly different design strategy, featuring asymmetrical camera placements and Glyph LEDs surrounding the circular camera module. This time, Nothing seems to have significantly polished the design. The company has integrated the Glyph Matrix from its earlier flagship, the Nothing Phone 3, into the mid-range series with the Phone 4a Pro.
It also marks the introduction of the company’s first metal unibody design, akin to many high-end Android devices, while preserving the distinct industrial aesthetics that Nothing products are recognized for. The phone showcases a smooth rear panel with an elevated camera plateau at the top that accommodates the camera system along with the Glyph Matrix.
The design of the Nothing Phone 4a Pro feels recognizable, yet not mundane.
Durability has seen enhancements this time, with the Phone 4a Pro upgrading its rating from IP64 to IP65. The phone is also fairly slim, measuring merely 7.95mm in thickness.
The standard Nothing Phone 4a, previously revealed, omits the Glyph LEDs surrounding the camera module found in the last generation. Instead, Nothing has introduced a new Glyph Bar located on the right side of the camera module. This Glyph Bar is a fresh feature of the Phone 4a and includes seven LED zones that illuminate to convey various types of information.
For instance, the Glyph Bar can light up during charging to display battery percentage. Nothing also mentions that there are progress indicators for calls, messages, charging, timers, and more. Nothing claims the Glyph Bar consists of 63 mini LED zones that are up to 40 percent brighter than previous versions, achieving brightness levels of up to 3,500 nits. The company also insists there is no light leakage, no yellow edges, and smoother light diffusion. The Phone 4a maintains the same IP64 rating as the earlier Phone 3a.
Examining the remaining specifications, the Nothing Phone 4a Pro features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of 144Hz. The standard Phone 4a offers a slightly smaller 6.78-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate but retains the same 1.5K resolution. Both devices utilize Corning Gorilla Glass 7i for display protection.
On the rear, both smartphones are equipped with a triple-camera setup. A significant upgrade this time is that the Phone 4a Pro now includes a 50MP telephoto periscope lens with 3.5x optical zoom support.
