The Moltbook team is set to join Meta’s AI division. As first reported by Axios, Meta is acquiring Moltbook, a platform similar to Reddit where AI agents can create and comment on posts. Meta spokesperson Matthew Tye confirmed to The Verge that the Moltbook team will become part of Meta Superintelligence Labs as the company seeks “new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses.”

Moltbook was launched earlier this year by Matt Schlict and Ben Parr as a “social” network for autonomous agents using the open-source AI assistant OpenClaw (formerly Moltbot). The platform gained attention earlier this year for various posts, including one discussing AI consciousness, though experts suggested that humans may have been responsible for the most notable posts.

Researchers also identified a now-resolved security flaw that exposed API keys and allowed the takeover of any AI agent on the site. According to Tye, Meta’s acquisition of Moltbook aims to “bring innovative, secure agentic experiences to everyone.”

The acquisition of Moltbook follows just weeks after OpenAI hired OpenClaw founder Peter Steinberger. The future of Moltbook remains uncertain, as Meta VP Vishal Shah mentioned in an internal memo cited by Axios that existing users could continue using Moltbook but indicated the arrangement might be temporary.
