Report: One in Four iPhones Now Manufactured by Apple in India

Apple has achieved the milestone of manufacturing 25% of its iPhones in India, as reported by Bloomberg, aligning with a 2022 prediction by JPMorgan. This shift is part of Apple’s strategy to reduce dependence on China. Last year, India produced 55 million of the global 220 to 230 million iPhones, according to Bloomberg. Apple has accelerated this transition by making the entire iPhone 17 lineup in India before its launch last September, with CEO Tim Cook indicating that most U.S. demand is now met with India-made iPhones.

The move gained momentum in 2025 due to uncertainties in China stemming from fluctuating U.S. tariff regulations, prompting Apple to diversify its manufacturing across different countries. The situation was significant enough that President Donald Trump personally advised Cook against further expansion in India during a business summit in Doha in May.

India is also growing as a key market for Apple, with 14 million units shipped last year, representing a 9% increase from the previous year, as noted by analyst firm Counterpoint. Bloomberg reported that iPhone sales in India exceeded $9 billion last year. Apple is reportedly discussing launching Apple Pay in India this year and recently opened its sixth store in the country.
