The modular PC company indicates this month’s price hike is minor but cautions about potential CPU shortages.
For the fourth consecutive month, Framework is raising prices on RAM and storage for modular PCs due to ongoing supplier shortages. According to a Tuesday update on Framework’s blog, DDR5 RAM will now be priced between $13 and $18 per GB, up from February’s $12 to $16 range. This increase is partly because the company has sold out of older, cheaper inventory, necessitating adjustments in storage capacity pricing as well.
The Framework Desktop is also facing a price increase due to the costs of RAM and storage. The base Desktop configuration now costs $1,269, up from January’s price of $1,139. Similarly, some pre-built configurations of the Framework Laptop 16 are seeing price hikes, and Framework plans to implement similar changes for other pre-built models in the coming months.
In Tuesday’s update, Framework noted that “the cost increase is smaller this month than in previous months,” though it remains uncertain whether this indicates price stabilization. The company also warned of emerging CPU shortages, particularly for the Intel Core i5-1334U processor used in the Framework Laptop 12.
