Microsoft is increasingly focused on integrating Xbox and Windows, with Project Helix, the next-gen Xbox, set to also play PC games. Helix is entering alpha in 2027, but Microsoft is already steering Windows gamers towards Xbox by bringing full-screen Xbox mode to all Windows 11 PCs in April, renaming it “Xbox mode.” Previously available in preview since November 2025 for Windows and Xbox Insider members, it initially needed improvements and a new name. While it debuted on Asus-designed Xbox Ally handhelds, it didn’t significantly enhance the PC experience. However, with Microsoft’s commitment to PC as the future of Xbox gaming, changes may occur. The Xbox Ally has been updated and is now more reliable. At the 2026 Game Developers Conference, Microsoft announced it’s making Advanced Shader Delivery available to all developers on the Xbox store, speeding up game load times with precompiled shaders. Microsoft also hinted at bringing classic Xbox games to PC as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.
