Journalist Julia Angwin has initiated a class-action lawsuit after discovering her inclusion in Grammarly’s ‘Expert Review’ AI editing feature. Grammarly has allegedly been using real people’s identities for its AI suggestions without obtaining permission, resulting in a lawsuit for privacy and publicity rights violations. Angwin learned of her identity’s use through Casey Newton, another expert involved. Current staff from The Verge were also found linked to Grammarly’s AI suggestions. In response to the controversy, Superhuman announced the disabling of the feature. CEO Shishir Mehrotra apologized, acknowledging the feedback and promising to rethink their approach.
