Disney+ is launching Verts, a new short-form video feature, on its mobile app for U.S. users. Announced in January, this TikTok-like feed showcases scenes from Disney+ movies and shows. Inspired by TikTok and Instagram Reels, Verts aims to enhance daily engagement, attract mobile-focused viewers, and increase discovery within the Disney+ library.
The feed will be accessible via a new icon in the app’s navigation. Users can swipe through Verts to add content to their watchlist or start watching directly. Disney notes in a blog post that Verts offers a modern and engaging way to explore their extensive catalog, making it easy for fans to find their next watch.
Initially highlighting Disney+ content clips, Verts will eventually incorporate creator content, various storytelling formats, and personalized experiences. Disney’s early tests in August with Disney+ and ESPN indicated increased engagement through Verts, thanks to its advanced recommendation algorithm, which personalizes content for each user, similar to TikTok’s successful strategy.
Disney+ isn’t the first to explore vertical video; Netflix launched a vertical feed last year to showcase clips from its originals. Both platforms aim to attract younger audiences accustomed to consuming short clips on mobile, hoping to lead viewers to watch full-length TV shows or movies.
