Last month, MediaTek introduced the Genio Pro 5100 and Genio 420 AIoT SoCs at Embedded World 2026, following the launch of the Genio 360/360P SoCs. The Genio Pro 5100 is a high-performance 3nm SoC with a 50+ TOPS NPU for Edge AI tasks. Meanwhile, the Genio 420 is a cost-effective 6nm platform aimed at smart home, retail, and industrial IoT uses.

The Genio Pro 5100 features an eight-core configuration with one Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores, complemented by an Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU. It supports LPDDR5X memory, multiple 4K displays, and a 50+ TOPS NPU for AI acceleration. Its range of interfaces includes PCIe Gen4, USB 3.2 Gen2, and dual 2.5GbE MAC.

In contrast, the Genio 420 utilizes an eight-core Armv8 processor, comprising two Cortex-A78 and six Cortex-A55 cores, along with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU and up to 7.2 TOPS of AI acceleration. It supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and dual 2.5K60 displays. Its pin compatibility with the Genio 720 and Genio 520 allows for scalable designs.

Both SoCs support various operating systems and AI development frameworks. The Genio Pro 5100 is compatible with Android, Linux variants, and the ROS 2 framework, while the Genio 420 runs on MediaTek’s Genio software platform with AI support through the NeuroPilot SDK. The Genio Pro 5100 and Genio 420 are set to expand the Genio IoT platform with the former providing a high-performance option and the latter serving mainstream IoT needs. Information on development boards for these SoCs is pending, with the Genio Pro 5100 sampling in early 2026 and the Genio 420 in April 2026.
