The U.S. Army announced on Friday a 10-year contract with defense technology startup Anduril, potentially worth up to $20 billion. The contract begins with a five-year base period, with an option to extend for another five years, covering Anduril’s hardware, software, infrastructure, and services. This agreement consolidates over 120 separate procurement actions for Anduril’s commercial solutions into a single contract. Gabe Chiulli from the Department of Defense emphasized the importance of rapidly acquiring and deploying software capabilities for modern warfare. Anduril, co-founded by Palmer Luckey, gained support from the second Trump administration due to its focus on autonomous military technology. The company reportedly generated $2 billion in revenue last year, and there are talks of a new funding round valuing Anduril at $60 billion. Meanwhile, the Department of Defense is in a legal dispute with Anthropic over a supply chain risk designation, and OpenAI is facing consumer backlash and an executive departure following its own Pentagon deal.
