Jessie Buckley has achieved a remarkable feat. The Hamnet star won the Oscar for Best Actress for her powerful performance as Agnes in Chloé Zhao’s film, following victories at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, Actor Awards, and more.

Buckley delivered a heartfelt speech at the 98th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, expressing gratitude to her fellow nominees Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), and Emma Stone (Bugonia). “I am inspired by your art and your heart, and I want to work with every single one of you,” Buckley said.

She then acknowledged her husband Freddie and daughter Isla, paying tribute to Zhao and Hamnet author Maggie O’Farrell. Buckley stated, “To get to know this incandescent woman and journey to understand the capacity of a mother’s love is the greatest collision of my life. It’s Mother’s Day in the UK today, so I would like to dedicate this to the beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart. We all come from a lineage of women who continue to create against all odds.”

Concluding her speech, Buckley, who hails from Killarney, spoke in Irish, saying, “Go raibh maith agaibh, slán,” which means “Thank you all, goodbye.”
