Apple has acquired MotionVFX, a firm specializing in plug-ins, templates, and advanced features for Apple’s Final Cut Pro video editing software. The acquisition terms remain undisclosed.

“We are extremely excited to share that MotionVFX is joining the Apple team to continue to empower creators and editors to do their best work,” MotionVFX announced on its website. “For over 15 years, we’ve been on a mission to create world-class, visually inspiring content and effects for video editors. From the very beginning, we’ve been all about quality, ease of use, and great design. These are also the values that we admire most in Apple’s products, and we’re thrilled to be able to embrace them together.”

Apple, known for not disclosing acquisitions publicly, did not respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment. TechCrunch will update this article if Apple replies.

MotionVFX, based in Warsaw and founded in 2009, provides subscription options starting at $29 monthly for access to its professional-grade editing tools, graphics, and templates. Apple’s acquisition is expected to integrate MotionVFX’s tools into Apple’s services.

This move could enhance Apple’s competitive stance against Adobe Premiere Pro and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.

In January, Apple introduced Creator Studio, a subscription package offering six creative apps and premium content in iWork apps for $12.99 monthly or $129 annually. It includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Pixelmator Pro on Mac and iPad, as well as Motion, Compressor, and MainStage on Mac, also providing premium content for Keynote, Pages, and Numbers.

By acquiring MotionVFX, Apple aims to attract more subscribers to its Creator Studio bundle.

Apple’s services segment has become a significant revenue driver in recent years, contributing over 26% of revenue in the last fiscal year, up from 8.5% in 2015.
