Volvo EX30 and Honda Prologue: Two More EVs Discarded

Volvo’s compact EV and Honda’s SUV built on the Chevy Equinox platform are the latest electric vehicles affected by the EV market decline.

Automakers continue to cancel or discontinue electric vehicles, with Volvo’s small EX30 SUV and Honda’s Prologue being the latest casualties amidst declining EV sales in the US, following the removal of tax incentives by the Trump administration.

The EX30, Volvo’s most affordable EV, is being discontinued in the US after the 2026 model year. However, it will continue to be available in markets including Mexico and Canada, as stated by Volvo spokesperson Sophia Durr. “Volvo Cars’ commitment to electrification and our customers remains unchanged,” she added, hinting at upcoming electrified models like the new EX60 and upgraded EX90.

The EX30’s pricing became an issue, starting at $44,900 in the US, despite an initial announcement in 2023 listing it at $34,950. Delays caused by tariffs on cars manufactured in China pushed the introduction in the US to 2025.

Honda’s Prologue also faces difficulties. A report from *Automotive News* suggested that the Prologue SUV is likely to be discontinued. The vehicle, manufactured by GM for Honda, is affected by GM’s shift away from EVs toward traditional and hybrid vehicles. However, Honda spokesperson Chris Naughton refuted these claims, stating they “are based purely on speculation,” and maintaining the Prologue is still part of their offering. Honda has recently acknowledged writing off up to $3.5 billion due to challenging financial circumstances, though they did not address GM’s production plans.
