Tumblr has revamped its reblogging feature, allowing interactions with individual posts in a chain, but the changes have upset many users. The update, announced by Tumblr, lets users like, reblog, and reply to any post in a reblog chain, with each reblog having its own note count. This alters Tumblr’s traditional collapsed reblog chain interface, which has been a key part of its user experience, breaking it into distinct posts. The new system resembles how reblogs function on platforms like X, Bluesky, and Threads, leading to concerns that Tumblr is becoming more like Twitter, with users finding it harder to track reblog chains. Users have also noted that creators may miss notifications on reblog interactions, affecting audience engagement. One long-term user criticized the change, saying it disrupts the community dynamic. Despite backlash, Tumblr plans to proceed with the update, acknowledging user concerns and promising to monitor reactions as it rolls out. Users have expressed their dissatisfaction, with over 35,000 negative comments on Tumblr’s announcement.
