Google has announced a collaboration with Michigan utility DTE to add 2.7 gigawatts of new resources in suburban Detroit for a new data center. This plan follows a similar deal with Xcel Energy in Minnesota. The plan includes 1.6 gigawatts of solar power, 400 megawatts of four-hour energy storage, 50 megawatts of long-duration energy storage, and 300 megawatts of additional clean resources. The remaining 350 megawatts will be covered by demand response. Google’s Clean Transition Tariff will be used, allowing the company to specify its power sources. Additionally, Google is introducing a $10 million Energy Impact Fund to reduce utility bills. This move is part of Google’s ongoing strategy to utilize 100% carbon-free power.
