Following his Marty Supreme press run, Oscar loss, and beef with the ballet and opera communities, you might feel Timothée Chalamet fatigue. But after the Dune: Part Three teaser, my fatigue is gone.
The conclusion to Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy takes place 17 years after Dune: Part Two. By the end of that film, Paul Atreides (Chalamet) is Emperor, marries Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), and declares the holy war he tried to avoid. Horrified at Paul, his lover Chani (Zendaya) flees.
Based on Part Three’s teaser, Chani and Paul’s story isn’t over. In tender flashbacks likely set during Part Two, they discuss naming their children: a girl named Ghanima and a boy named Leto, after Paul’s father. These are the names of Paul and Chani’s children in the books.
Aside from their sweet musings, little comfort is in the teaser. Everyone struggles, as the universe is at war. Between action scenes and new Dune locations, the teaser introduces key players: Paul’s sister Alia (Anya Taylor-Joy), now grown and dealing with immense powers; Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a shape-shifting Face Dancer; and Jason Momoa as Hayt, a ghola, returning from dead matter after Duncan Idaho’s death.
There’s a lot to take in, even before bald Paul Atreides appears. Watch the teaser above for the full experience.
Dune: Part Three hits theaters Dec. 18.
