Thank goodness for this show.
Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan’s remarkable crime-comedy Deadloch garnered rave reviews for its first season. Described as a “feminist Australian buddy-comedy-murder-noir” and “Broadchurch meets Letterkenny, but with more lesbians,” Deadloch cemented its unique place in television in 2023.
In Season 2, directed by Beck Cole and Gracie Otto, detectives Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) swap Tasmania for the crocodile-filled regions of Australia’s Top End. The second season remains as hilarious, well-crafted, and distinctively Australian as the first, transforming classic murder-mystery elements into something new.
Deadloch once again proves it’s a top-tier crime-comedy, filled with overlapping cases, quirky locals, and memorable insults. Ultimately, thank goodness for this show.
What’s Deadloch Season 2 about?
After solving a murder in Deadloch during Season 1, Eddie and Dulcie head to Garramilla (Darwin) in Larrakia country. Eddie seeks answers about her former partner Bushy’s death. In Barra Creek, they encounter a dead crocodile with a body part. Their challenges include lack of resources, dodgy detectives, the powerful Darrell family, and croc tour rivals led by a brash celebrity wildlife presenter.
Madeleine Sami and Kate Box are comedic powerhouses, supported by a stellar cast. Dulcie, now out of her element, contends with sexism, Eddie’s unorthodox methods, and the sweltering heat, while Eddie faces her past with humor and heart. The show’s new season introduces new beloved characters and maintains its distinctly Australian charm.
Deadloch remains deeply, gloriously Australian, with cultural references and stunning visuals. With its return, viewers are in for another entertaining ride. Deadloch is streaming on Prime Video from March 20.
