Reson8 Secures €5M to Develop Europe’s Leading Speech AI

2 Min Read

Amsterdam’s Reson8 has secured €5M in pre-seed funding to develop a precise, industry-focused speech recognition platform for European languages, challenging US-dominated platforms.

Reson8, a speech AI startup offering customized language recognition, secured funding to enhance infrastructure and expand models across 20+ European languages.

Backed by Balderton Capital and NP Hard, the funding helps Reson8’s mission to offer a local alternative to English-centric models.

Reson8’s ASR platform supports specialized speech models, adapting instantly to conversations, with customizable options for European languages, including dialects and industry jargon.

It also facilitates recognition of specialized terminology, seamless dialogue, and customization for professions, organizations, or individuals.

Innovative Acoustic Precision

The company’s model introduces a revolutionary approach to speech AI, emphasizing acoustic precision by mirroring real-life spoken language. Models can be customized using context from documents, websites, and calendars.

Founded by Thomas Kluiters, Raoul Ritter, and Jarno Verhagen, Reson8 targets issues in current generic AI models with the principle of “your language, your jargon.”

Reson8 aims to address common ASR shortcomings, emphasizing that speech technology should adapt to users, not vice versa.

Bridging the “Generic AI” Gap in Europe

The platform mitigates issues from US-centric models in Europe, like manual corrections and poor translations, by using adjustable adapters to enhance conversations contextually, ensuring accuracy.

European Infrastructure and Compliance

Operating with its own European infrastructure, the company provides a European-hosted AI, ensuring data residency and compliance with regulations. Reson8 caters to industries like:

  • Healthcare: Includes drug names, specialization terminologies, and clinical shorthand.
  • Legal: Covers firm-specific language, contractual terms, and jurisdiction-specific vocabulary.
  • Customer Support: Handles product names, technical terms, and brand-specific language for personalized service.

The funding, led by Balderton Capital along with NP Hard, will help expand European hardware, develop the inference stack, foundational models, and selectively grow the team, focusing on talent.

James Wise of Balderton Capital praised Reson8 for its Europe-first strategy and technical expertise in the speech AI sector.

The €5M pre-seed funding will boost Reson8’s hardware presence, improve models, and prioritize talent recruitment over quantity.
