iPads are not the only option when it comes to tablets. Android tablets offer a wide range of capabilities for both streaming and work-related tasks. OnePlus, known for its Android smartphones and smartwatches, also produces tablets.

The latest from OnePlus, the Pad Go 2, is a tablet priced under $500. While it bears a resemblance to Apple’s iPads, the differences become evident upon closer examination. I tested the OnePlus Pad Go 2, a suitable tablet for students and creatives, to evaluate its performance.

The OnePlus Pad Go 2 is a user-friendly tablet that doesn’t quite match the computing power and memory of a laptop, but it offers more than a phone.

  • Price: $399.99
  • Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Storage: 128GB ROM
  • Display: 2.8k resolution, 900 nits brightness, and 120Hz refresh rate
  • Ports: 1 USB-C port
  • Camera: 8MP front and rear camera
  • Audio: 4 speakers

Ideal interface for those switching over from iOS

Among the Android tablets tested, the OnePlus Pad Go 2 was the most familiar for iPhone users. The home screen layout, with its widgets and sleek display, appears very similar to iOS, though with round app icons. The gestures, like pulling down for menus or swiping up to close apps, are also alike. It features a directory in the app bar for easier access to apps, a feature not present on iPads.

Split screen feature is lacking

The multi-window display popular in iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tabs isn’t as functional on the OnePlus. While split-screen is available, allowing the screen to be divided in half with an adjustable slider, it doesn’t offer fully customizable organic window movement.

High-quality streaming with just OK speakers

Streaming on the OnePlus Pad Go 2 was generally flawless, with high-quality visuals thanks to its 2.8k resolution and 900 nits brightness. However, the audio quality from its four speakers was less impressive, resembling smartphone speakers with a slight fuzziness.

Disappointing computing power

The OnePlus Pad Go 2 adequately handles everyday tasks but doesn’t perform on par with the Apple iPad. With a Geekbench 6 score of 3,030, it falls behind the iPad’s score of 6,233, making it less ideal for demanding tasks like photo editing.

Extensive battery life

A standout feature of the Pad Go 2 is its battery life, lasting nearly 14 hours in a rundown test, making daily charging unnecessary.
