Stephen Colbert often delves into serious topics like politicians’ deleted tweets and defense department spending, but he also finds time for lighter stories, such as monkey news. The Late Show host has already shown interest in Punch, the viral monkey from Japan’s Ichikawa City Zoo, by purchasing the same IKEA orangutan toy that Punch uses for comfort. In a recent episode, Colbert discusses a new development regarding Punch.
“Rumors are swirling that Punch the monkey has a girlfriend,” Colbert says. “Which means this update isn’t merely ooh-ooh ahh-ahh, it’s ooh-ooh la-la.”
Colbert continues, “News of the monkey romance started spreading when folks caught Punch and Momo-chan sharing a smooch. Boy, I hope somebody taught him how to put a condom on a banana.”
