Authored by Neal Broverman on March 20, 2026.

People first noticed it on X: a peculiar, unsettling job listing that some thought was a joke, reminiscent of Cyberdyne Systems in the “Terminator” series.

However, on LinkedIn, Anthropic posted a listing for a Policy Manager specializing in Chemical Weapons and High Yield Explosives, outlining the role’s focus on safeguarding AI systems against misuse. They emphasized collaboration with AI safety researchers.

Anthropic clarified that their usage policies prohibit using their products to develop weapons. The New York-based manager will ensure safeguards to prevent weapon creation with their tech. The role seeks sensitive field experts to keep AI away from harmful uses.

Anthropic is in conflict with the Department of Defense, refusing its AI for autonomous weapons or mass surveillance, with the Pentagon considering the company a security risk. Anthropic updated its AI safety policy, citing the need for strong industry standards.

The appointed policy manager will play a crucial role in the ongoing debate and potentially prevent future threats similar to Skynet.
