Microsoft Reduces Copilot AI Bloat on Windows

1 Min Read

Microsoft announced changes aimed at enhancing the quality of Windows 11 by reducing entry points to its AI assistant, Copilot. The company plans to cut back on Copilot AI integrations in apps like Photos, Widgets, Notepad, and the Snipping Tool. Pavan Davuluri, EVP of Windows and Devices, emphasized Microsoft’s focus on meaningful AI integration, prioritizing genuinely useful experiences. This approach may respond to consumer concerns about AI bloat, with a recent Pew Research study showing heightened apprehension about AI among U.S. adults. Previously, Microsoft had delayed and rethought its Copilot integrations, including shelving system-level features in Windows 11. User feedback has played a key role in guiding these changes. Besides the Copilot rollback, Microsoft is introducing options like moving the taskbar, enhanced control over updates, a faster File Explorer, improvements in Widgets, an updated Feedback Hub, and easier navigation in the Windows Insider Program.
