In 2022, Charlotte Adigery and Bolis Pupul released a record that stood out for its blend of incisive commentary and danceability. The album, revisited by many this year, shares some sonic elements with Sotomayor’s “Wabi Sabi,” though their styles differ. Both albums merge electronic and organic elements with a rough-around-the-edges feel, designed for the dancefloor. Adigery and Pupul incorporate rock and early electronic influences, at times reminiscent of the Talking Heads, especially in tracks like “Ceci N’est Pas un Cliché.”

The album’s lyrics add depth beyond its danceable grooves. “Blenda” offers a sharp political edge, questioning identity over a backdrop of synth bass and 80s drum beats. “Esperanto” provides satirical advice on politically correct language, with Adigery intentionally exaggerating certain phrases to highlight social faux pas. The humor continues with “HAHA,” a track featuring prolonged laughter broken only by the phrase, “Guess you had to be there.”

“Topical Dancer” by Charlotte Adigery and Bolis Pupul is available on platforms like Bandcamp, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Qobuz, Deezer, and Spotify, offering audiences both lively beats and thought-provoking content.
