Hackers Claim Breach of Crunchyroll, Steal Data of Nearly 7 Million Users

1 Min Read

Crunchyroll is examining a possible data breach after claims surfaced that a hacker has accessed the information of nearly 7 million users. The breach is believed to have occurred through vulnerabilities at Telus International, which handles customer support for Crunchyroll. The company is collaborating with cybersecurity experts to address the situation. The hacker gained access by infecting a customer support agent’s computer, using stolen credentials to access multiple services, and downloading 8 million support ticket records, containing personal details such as full names, email addresses, and IP addresses. Credit card details weren’t stolen, but partial information shared in tickets may have been compromised. A $5 million ransom was reportedly demanded but not answered by Crunchyroll. Pictures evidencing the breach were shared online, and while Telus had a separate hacking incident, it’s considered unrelated. Crunchyroll has yet to communicate with users about the alleged breach.
