Flighty’s Latest Update Provides Real-Time Airport Disturbance Alerts

2 Min Read

As airport chaos becomes more common, the popular flight tracking app Flighty has introduced a new “Airport Intelligence” feature that provides users with real-time alerts about airport disruptions at 14,000 airports worldwide. This release is timely, as tensions in the Middle East have led to numerous flight delays, cancellations, and airport shutdowns, while the U.S. faces a shortage of Transportation Security Administration agents, resulting in closed security checkpoints and lengthy lines.

The startup is also launching the feature as a free web dashboard, allowing users to monitor disruptions at no cost.

The company states it uses the same data as pilots and airlines to power this feature, including real-time airport advisories, Meteorological Aerodrome Reports (METARs), Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAFs), Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs), and more.

This allows Flighty to provide insights into airport operations, such as ground stops, landing procedures, and other safety protocols.

Flighty translates complex technical data into simple language that helps users understand how their journey could be affected through Airport Intelligence.

“Airport meltdowns are increasingly common, and historically it required a pilot, controller, or serious aviation expert to explain the reasons, until now. Airport Intelligence turns raw data into real insights, so you always know what’s happening at your airport,” said Flighty CEO Ryan Jones.

The new update also introduces additional features like airport warnings for reasons such as hail, low visibility, de-icing, and lightning; airport delays forecast with AI-powered summaries; and Deep Airport Stats, showcasing busiest airlines, most impacted routes, airport rankings, official flight rules, and direct links to airport websites and directions.

The update includes favorite airport alerts and airport boards displaying all arrivals and departures, with performance trends. Users can also compare airport visits with friends within the app.

Additionally, Flighty now offers a TV mode for broadcasters, creators, and newsrooms, displaying the live status of an airport on a screen with an updating ticker.
