Stephen Colbert’s post-The Late Show plans have been revealed. He is co-writing a new Lord of the Rings movie with his son, Peter McGee. In the announcement video with director Peter Jackson, Colbert discusses his inspiration from the early chapters of The Fellowship that weren’t developed into the initial movie. The story will explore Sam, Merry, and Pippin’s journey 14 years after Frodo’s death, revisiting their adventure. The movie will also feature the character Tom Bombadil, who was not included in the original film trilogy.
