Sony and Honda Discontinue Their Afeela EV

The signs were evident, yet unexpected. Stan Schroeder reported on March 25, 2026, that despite initial plans, Sony and Honda’s collaborative electric vehicle project, Afeela, has abruptly ceased. Both companies announced in a joint statement that they have halted development on their first model, AFEELA 1, and its successor, citing a need to reassess their business strategy. Although Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) isn’t dissolved, the future of the joint venture remains uncertain with a forthcoming announcement. Without any vehicles in production, SHM appears on the verge of disbandment. The advanced state of the Afeela 1, demonstrated at CES recently, underscored the project’s proximity to launch. Positioned as an entertainment-centric vehicle, featuring PlayStation Remote Play, an AI assistant, and videoconferencing, the Afeela 1 was priced at $89,000 for a U.S. launch in late 2026. The potential follow-up model, Afeela 2 SUV, was intended to debut later.
