Netflix has officially announced Bridgerton Season 5, focusing on pianist Francesca (Hannah Dodd) getting another chance at love. The upcoming season is based on “When He Was Wicked,” the sixth book in Julia Quinn’s Regency romance series, and will revolve around Lady Francesca Stirling (née Bridgerton). Francesca, who was widowed in Season 4 after losing her husband John (Victor Alli), is now searching for a new partner two years later. Meanwhile, John’s cousin Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza) has returned to London after leaving in the Season 4 finale. Her return presents an opportunity for unexpected developments in her relationship with Francesca. Michaela, a character originally named Michael in Quinn’s books, was changed to female for Netflix’s version. Bridgerton Season 5 will be the series’ first centered around an LGBTQ romance, with promises of abundant sapphic yearning.
